Archival Audio Samples of Previous Projects

Below you will find various audio examples of Musa Canta Music arrangements and transcriptions for variously sized ensembles and instrumentation, including several arrangements for vocalists. In each case the arrangement was designed with the ensemble/performers in mind. Some examples are exact transcriptions from recordings, and others demonstrate varying degrees of additionally composed material for the arrangement. All of the material below is ready and available for sale.
"Too Close for Comfort" was originally commissioned for a vocalist to perform at the 2008 Detroit Jazz Festival. This arrangement borrows from previous versions of the song while incorporating original material at the end.
"Polly" was an original arrangement for big band of the Dave Brubeck composition commissioned for Oakland University, and premiered at the 2013 Detroit Jazz Festival. The interior material is a unique treatment of Brubeck's "In Your Own Sweet Way."
"My Dear Friend" is an original composition by pianist Michael Zaporski. Though conceived of as a jazz trio tune, both recordings demonstrate how a composition can be "arranged" to fit any ensemble and any soloist. Both versions incorporate material unique to the specific arrangement throughout, especially during the improvised solo sections. The second version was an arrangement tailored to meet the needs of Salim Washington on flute performing with a dectet.
"Azure Te" is a hybrid arrangement/transcription. The arrangement itself is original, yet the saxophone soli is a harmonization of Louis Jordan's famous alto sax solo transcribed from the original recording. The vocalist is John "T-Bone" Paxton accompanied by the Planet D. Nonet.
"Candy" is a very basic adaptation of the Big Maybelle song for dectet featuring vocalist Thornetta Davis.
"Possession" is a transcription of the Sun Ra song. Every instrumental part was meticulously copied for the recording and then adapted to fit the needs (range, timbre, etc.) of this ensemble.
